Low in energy? Stressed? Read on….

I’m so sorry for the lack of updates recently (I know you have been waiting on the edge of your seats….Joi ;-)). I haven’t been feeling Β too well and so have been trying to take some time out. But I am feeling a lot better now….how are you?!?!

So I thought I would post a really quick blog about ENERGY, something I know we all need in abundance but don’t always have in unlimited supply like we would want. There are many things you can to do increase your energy levels, taking into account all the components of the Wellness Wheel, like re-assessing relationships, the amount of time and energy you give out, sleep, nutrition, exercise, your mindset. LOADS. But if you either feel like everything is in check and you need a little extra help, OR you want to try something “easy” to help, like supplementing your diet with Co-Enzyme Q10.

Kenny could use some Co-Q10

Co-enzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring nutrient that is present in all cells and highly concentrated in the cells of the heart. It is often referred to as the ‘biochemical spark plug’ due to its essential role in the production of energy. Co-Q10 is an antioxidant that is made in the human body and needed for basic cell function. It also counteracts damage to the skin from free-radicals, and helps to preserve collagen and elastin.

In particular, our body uses Co-Q10 to create ATP (which is our bodies energy source). Many factors will affect the amount you create. Age is one, as after the age of 40 our body creates much less co-q10. Other lifestyle factors also come into play such as how stressed you are, how much you exercise and whether you are on statins.

Essentially, if you fall into any of the below camps you should consider supplementing with Co-Q10 to increase your energy levels:

  • Stressed
  • Over the age of 40
  • On statins
  • Exercises a lot

From food we will get only 3-6 mg per day, so supplement by the below amounts:

  • If you are stressed/ exercise a lot aim for 100-150mg per day.
  • If you are over 40, 100- 200mg per day
  • If you are on statins, 300mg per day in split doses.
